Our Adoption Procedures Are As Follows:
We have potential adopters complete an application and return it. We review the information and check veterinary and grooming references. If everything checks out, then we make an appointment for the applicant to visit the dogs.
**Please Note -- We do NOT ship any dogs. Potential adopters MUST be willing to drive here and meet us and the dog they are interested in adopting.
Each dog who leaves here has the following:
Vet-checked Current on DHPP, Bordatella, and Rabies Vaccines Wormed Spay/Neutered Heartworm tested and on monthly preventative Frontlined, if necessary Microchipped Rescue ID Tag New Lupine Combination Collar Freshly Groomed
We do not have non-profit status, so donations are not tax deductible. However, we do NOT make any profit from our rescue efforts. We rely on the adoption donations to reimburse us enough so that we are able to continue helping other needy cocker spaniels. We do have set amounts for the adoption donations... they vary according to the age and health of each animal.
We spend thousands of dollars each year providing vet care, medications, heat and air-conditioning, food, toys, bedding, chew bones, and grooming and cleaning supplies, licensing, and other necessities to house and care for these dogs.
Our standard donations -- to APPROVED applicants, only -- is $300.00 for adults between 2 and 8 years of age. Puppies up to 2 years of age are $400.00 Puppies who are whelped and/or raised in rescue from an early age are $500.00. Rarely, we get a pregnant momma into rescue and it is very expensive to whelp and properly care for puppies. Dogs older than 8 years, and those with Special Needs are adopted at reduced amounts, which will vary, depending on the dog. This is NOT to be construed as an offer of dogs for sale. All dogs are available for adoption to approved homes only. We reserve the right to refuse to adopt to anyone, for any reason. Regretfully, we have had to raise our adoption donations in 2005 because of steadily increasing expenses. We hated to have to raise the donations, but we feel we really didn't have any choice if we were to continue providing the same quality of care that we have for our cockers over the years.
Below is an application. When you return this application for consideration, please be sure to phone your vet and give them permission to speak with us when we call to verify your references. Regarding the signature line -- if you return this application by e-mail, type your name in to the signature line signifying that you agree with everything stated on the application. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED..
Additionally, we do not accept applications that have been filled out for other rescue groups. We have put a lot of time and thought into our questionnaire and it is designed to help us find the type of homes that we want for our rescue dogs. We understand that it is time consuming, but if you want to adopt from us, you must submit a completed copy of our application.
The application may be mailed, faxed, or e-mailed back to us. Visits are by appointment only, after an application has been submitted and reviewed by the Adoption Committee.
Thank you for your interest. |

This would include vet fees for spay/neutering, vaccines, heartworm tests, and other vet fees and medications, microchips, ID tags, and grooming and housing expenses. This is necessary so that we can continue our efforts to help other cocker spaniels that may need our assistance. (Other expenses incurred are shelter fees to get the animals released to us, grooming supplies, flea treatments, disinfectants, food, etc...)
I certify that I am at least 21 years of age and that I will be the legal owner of and ultimately, solely responsible for the care and well-being of any dog I adopt from CastAwayCockers (Wanda Kefauver) Cocker Spaniel Rescue.
I have read and understand all 4 pages of this Adoption Application.
Any misrepresentation of the true facts, in this application or in the Adoption Agreeement, will invalidate the Adoption Agreement and will give CastAwayCockers (Wanda Kefauver) the right to reclaim the adopted Cocker Spaniel without refund of any donations.
